OBJECTIVE

Atlanta Retired Educators Association will provide the organizational framework through which retired educators can continue a life of service and support to fellow members, their active colleagues and the community.

Purpose

The purpose of the scholarship award is to provide funds to a highly motivated student who has the financial need and is interested in pursuing a career in Education.

ELIGIBILITY

To be considered for this scholarship, you must:

 

Be a United States Citizen or legal permanent resident;
Have a desire to major in the field of Education;
Be a 2023 full-time senior graduating from an accredited Atlanta Public School (APS) High School;
Have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better;
Have a minimum SAT score of 1200 or better, or an ACT score of 20 or better;

Application Criteria

Submit one letter of recommendation from school and proof of volunteer service (family members excluded);
Submit a typed essay of 250 words entitled "Why I Want to be an Educator";
Submit a recent photograph;
Submit an official (sealed) high school transcript obtained from the Records Coordinator or Guidance Counselor;
Provide proof of parent's or legal guardian's income (e.g., W2, IRS Form 1040);
AREA scholarship application;
AREA checklist form;

 

The Scholarship awardee is selected on the basis of their application and supporting

documentation.

 

**All documents received will be handled with complete privacy and confidentiality.

Application materials must be mailed in one packet. Transcripts and letter of recommendation should not be sent under separate cover.  Incomplete, e-mailed, faxed or late applications will not be considered.

Please notify the AREA Scholarship Committee Chairperson once accepted and enrolled in the college or university..  Upon receipt of proof of enrollment,  the scholarship award in the amount of $1,000.00 will be mailed directly to the recipent.
