The quote from the Dalai Lama should make us think about our importance. We are educators. We have weathered many different circumstances and challenges. Yet, we are a testament today for all the lives we have touched. Being a member of the Atlanta Retired Educators Association (AREA) affords us the opportunity to continue our work.

We offer financial support to help feed the homeless, provide scholarships to future educators, and honor and recognize local teachers during Teacher’s Appreciation Week. We also provide a platform for political and educational representatives to share information that aids in our political and educational decisions especially as it relates to children.

We support and uplift AREA club members as well. During our meetings, we recognize individual and group achievements and celebrate birthdays and other select national awareness days. We also gather annually to attend association meetings at the State level (Georgia Retired Educators Association), our club holiday socials, and we always end our monthly meetings with a social hour and delicious hors d’oeuvres!

It takes a village to raise a child. We are a part of that village. We invite you to also become a part of our village. Retirement is just a new journey we take to make a difference. “Namaste,” is a Sanskrit greeting that means “I bow down to you, “ symbolizing honor and respect in the other person. When we reach out to others and those who need our help, we recognize the divine in those we serve. We invite you to do the same. COME JOIN US!
